Se mignoter

Nombre de mots disparaissent des dictionnaires pour faire place à d’autres, nettement moins poétiques, à mon avis.
Mignoter. Voilà un joli verbe qu’il me plaît de savoir encore dans un dictionnaire. Pourvu qu’il ne disparaisse pas !

Définition Larousse 1922 : Mignoter : familier. Traiter délicatement ; mignoter un enfant.
Définition tirée de : Origine et formation de la langue française. par A. de Chevallet..., édition : 1853-1857. Mignot, mignote signifiait autrefois petit, délicat, mignon, gentil, joli. Il nous est resté le verbe mignoter, caresser comme on caresse un mignot (un charmant enfant), le dorloter…

Et voici Balzac qui l’emploie dans La belle Imperia :
« … Mais en voyant l’Imperia soucieuse, il s’approcha d’elle pour la mignardement enlasser dans ses bras et la mignoter à la façon des cardinaux, gens brimballant mieux que tous autres, voire même que les soudards… »
Mais peut-être sommes-nous devenus trop politiquement corrects aujourd’hui pour entendre Balzac nous raconter les ébats des cardinaux et de leurs maîtresses ! Si certains ne se mignotent plus, heureusement, dans les romans de Gabrielle Dubois, on se mignote encore… et plus !
